Nut-Free, Gluten-Free Twists on the Classic Banana Cream Pie Recipe!
Last month I posted about my love for Key Lime Pie, a flavor that I feel is underrated in the world of pies. Now, I am featuring another underdog: Banana Cream Pie. According to the American Pie Council (it’s a real thing), Nearly one out of five (19%) of Americans prefer apple pie, followed by pumpkin (13%), banana cream (10%) and cherry (9%).
March 2nd marks “National Banana Cream Pie Day” which seemed like an appropriate time for me to highlight a few of my favorite nut-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free variations on this classic flavor profile. Everyone knows how to make a classic Banana Cream Pie, but these recipes take it to a whole new level. Enjoy!
Banana Cream Pie Smoothie from Peanut Butter and Peppers: While I am an advocate for eating pie for breakfast (it’s just like a breakfast pastry), this banana cream pie inspired smoothie is a healthier option. Made from bananas, coconut milk, half and half, and vanilla extract it’s the perfect way to start your day. Want a boost of protein? Add a scoop of allergy-free protein powder, I love this one. Find the smoothie recipe here.
Banana Cream Waffles from House of Yumm: More of a waffle person in the morning? I feel you. This simple waffle recipe infuses the traditional recipe with a dash of Banana extract. Want to make these gluten-free? Swap out the waffle ingredients with your favorite gluten-free mix. I love this one. Don’t forget the vanilla syrup which makes each bite even sweeter. Find the waffle recipe here.
Banana Cream Pie Overnight Oats from diys: I’m all about the overnight oats, especially when the weather is warmer and I’m not in the mood for a hot breakfast dish. This recipe uses oats, almond milk (substitute with coconut milk if you have a nut-allergy), bananas, and vanilla extract. Healthy and delicious! Find the oats recipe here.
Banana and Chocolate Chia Pie Parfaits from Half Baked Harvest: This recipe is incredible. The chocolate chia pudding is packed with protein (use coconut milk if you have a nut-allergy), the coconut banana cream is 100% nut-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free, and the caramelized buckwheat is also gluten-free and nut-free. Do yourself and favor and make these now! Find the parfaits here.
Dulce de Leche Banana Cream Pie from Oh, Sweet Basil: Adding caramel into a traditional banana cream pie recipe takes it to another level. This calls for graham crackers, my favorite gluten-free, nut-free brand is Kinnikinnick. Find the pie recipe here.
