I first stumbled upon 88 Acres last fall when looking for a granola bar that was gluten-free and didn’t contain nuts. My search came up fruitless, it appeared to me that granola seemed to go hand in hand with nuts (lots of them) and most often also traces of gluten. I felt like I’d never be able to find safe granola…until I discovered the company 88 Acres.

“Free-From” Business Spotlight: Caveman Foods, Gluten-Free, Peanut-Free, Soy-Free, Dairy-Free, Paleo Snacks My daily rule of thumb is to always make sure that I pack allergy-free high protein snacks. Sometimes this can be difficult as most protein bars contain dairy and nuts, both of which are ingredients I avoid. Cue my excitement to discover Caveman Foods, […]
Summertime is synonymous with sunshine, backyards, beaches, and BBQ. Given that National Hot Dog Day happens this month I felt inspired to create my own Allergy Free Wife spin on the typical hot dog meal, replacing the hot dog with a fire-roasted fuji apple chicken sausage, trading in a traditional wheat bun for a gluten-free variety made with whole grains, and swapping out fries for baked lentil chips.
When I talk about food allergies to others, a question that comes up again and again is if there’s a cure for food allergies. Sadly, there currently isn’t a cure, however I was excited to learn about the non-profit E.A.T. (End Allergies Together), which is the only independent organization solely focused on raising money for a cure. 100% of their focus is on raising money for food allergy research.
During my trip to Edinburgh, Scotland last month I visited The Royal Yacht Britannia. I was expecting to get a dose of history and see a beautiful yacht, but hadn’t realized that the visit would also offer a wonderful allergy-free dining experience. Not only would I finally be able to get my high tea fix, but it would be in the nautical residence of the Queen! This discovery was truly the icing on the gluten-free cake!

We’ve all been gluten-ed, it unfortunately happens to the best of us. Once the gluten-ing has occurred I have a few favorite remedies that don’t cure the symptoms, but do help to make the situation less painful. My go-to combination is ginger tea, hot lemon water, and my new favorite item: tummydrops. tummydrops were developed by Gastroenterologist Dr. Dustin James in partnership with his wife after hearing the frustration his patients expressed to him about the lack of effectiveness of over-the-counter stomach ache remedies.
There’s more to baking than gluten. During my trip to the United Kingdom last month I was lucky enough to visit Beyond Bread, which I’d heard was the spot to find the best gluten-free treats in London.
It’s no secret I have a sweet tooth, but I love when I can find something that feels a bit sinful to eat and figure out a recipe to make it healthier and allergy-free. After going gluten-free a few years ago waffles seemed like a breakfast item I could safely say goodbye to. Other than buckwheat, most waffles aren’t gluten-free and honestly, while delicious, are not particularly healthy. This changed after I discovered a recipe that was full of protein, and free of allergens: Power Protein Waffles!
